Vaseline
Pickle Castor
OR Jar w/Tongs
Victorian (1890's??)
I have spent a considerable amount of time researching this item and it is clear that not only do I know for sure who made this, but others also are confused by it.  I found this exact item listed as "Beaumont" who made glass in the late 1800's in Martin's Ferry  West Virginia.  They called this COLUMBIA pattern.  Interestingly, this is where I found it...well not in Martin's Ferry, but I did find it in West Virginia so my thoughts are that this is probably correct.  Another dealer called this DIAMOND POINT.  That was made by Wilcox a few years earlier than the Beaumont company.  However, in looking into this claim, it appears that Wilcox was a Silver Making company and not a glass making company.
So really the bottom line is that you probably know more than others do about who and what this piece really is.  My hats are off to you.  ;>)
The stand however is a different story.  That is clearly marked with a Pairpoint Company stamp as well as a P in the center of a diamond.  Also stamped on the stand is "Quadruple Plate" and a number which I think is "643".  Known is the fact that glass companies did not make the stands that went with their product.  And, there is a possibility that the stand, fork and glass are all marriages to make up one piece.  That is to say, it may not have been sold as it is shown here but that someone down the line found pieces that worked and put it together to make this one piece.  What ever the case, this is a great piece...it looks wonderful and it is in good condition.  However, the silver plate is pretty much gone I think which is typical of older pieces like this. NO, it isn't black but does have still some silver coloring to it, however it doesn't shine like new silver would.
Now for the
dimensions
of this piece.  The glass jar itself and outside of the holder is about 4-1/2 inches tall and about 3-1/4 inches wide at the bottom.  The stand stands a good 11--1/8 inches tall and is about 6 inches across.  The tong is about 6-1/2 inches long and about 1-1/2 inches wide and has no markings on it that I can find.
Over all this piece is in very good condition.  There is some brown residue around the rid of the jar itself where the lid slips over probably old, dried food particles is what I think it is, but it doesn't come off with normal washing.  Soaking it might do the trick however, but this brown residue isn't serious at all.  Just would like to point it out.
Please remember this has been previously owned and displayed and   probably has been used somewhere along it's 125 year old history.  Thanks for looking.  Blessings be with you.
